'LA DISCOTHEQUE'S 1st BIRTHDAY' (25/11/17)

La Discotheque are labelled as 'the UK's most fabulous disco club brand', and on Saturday the 25th of November, it was time to celebrate their much anticipated 1st birthday party, held at the Albert Hall. They have provided some great parties over the past year, with previous line ups including a variety of disco legends and pioneers of the nu-disco era. Todd Terje, Dimitri from Paris, Candi Staton, Nicky Siano, Crazy P and many more have been involved in the La Discotheque project and it has resulted in them receiving awards for being one of the best clubbing nights in the UK. It was no surprise then, when they announced a scintillating line up for their birthday, with disco royalty - Evelyn Champagne King being joined by some of the finest DJs around at the moment, to produce the highest quality disco sets.

Having arrived at around 10:30pm, defected regular DJ Spen was already in full swing (10pm-11:40pm). The Albert Hall had been transformed into the disco of dreams, with an amazing set up provided by the La Discotheque crew. There was a fantastic lighting display, and of a course, a gigantic, mirror ball. As the Albert Hall began to pack out, Spen played a variety of disco classics to get everyone going. His remixes of Earth Wind and Fire's 'September' and Dan Hartman's 'Relight My Fire' were particular crowd favourites. He did a great job in warming up the crowd before a very special live performance from Evelyn Champagne King.

Evelyn flew over from the US for a very rare UK performance, which attracted a sold out Albert Hall. Everyone was in attendance for the 20 minutes of magic (11:40am-12:00am) as the disco was fully underway. 'Love Come Down' and 'Shame' were belted out with vocals better than ever. La Discotheque had really gone the extra mile with this addition, it was a very special touch to the night. The disco queen must've felt like she was back in the late 70s as she performed her classics to a packed out disco. Balloons and confetti were unleashed from the ceiling to make the occasion even more magical.

Next up on the bill were La Discotheque favourites Horse Meat Disco (12:00am-1:20am). Whenever and wherever Horse Meat play, they always provide great vibes with their enormous passion for disco music. They were born to play at prime time at an event like this and knew exactly how to satisfy the crowds needs. James Hillard and Jim Stanton went b2b playing a mix of disco classics, Italo disco, punk funk and many more delightful sounds, with their own take of the Bee Gee's 'You Should be Dancing' landing mid way through the set, which was amazing. You can always rely on Horse Meat Disco to provide a great time.

This was the lineup that just kept on giving. House and disco legend Joey Negro was up next (1:20am-2:40am). With a fantastic career spanning 30 years, he has become one of the most important names in the history of dance music. He is well known for his re-edits of a variety of house and disco classics and these were on show from start to finish in his set. The energy was kept high throughout, with superb remixes of disco classics such as Patrice Rushen's 'Haven't you Heard' and Gwen McCrae's 'Keep the Fire Burning', being mixed in with his own productions for example 'Must be the Music' and nu-disco tunes such as Crazy P's 'One True Light'! The crowd were treated to the highest quality disco set as confetti rained down.

Last to play on the night from 2:40am until close (4am) was Chicago legend Roy Davis Jr. He provided more great vibes and kept everyone going with housey disco tunes, joined by a live saxophone. Roy produced one of the best moments of the night as he closed with Jackie Moore's 'This Time Baby'. The thousands of disco lovers in attendance danced one last time under the magnificent disco ball before returning to normality. What a night! La Discotheque's 1st birthday party lived up to the enormous hype surrounding the event. It was outrageously fun and entertaining, and we can't wait for the next event to be announced.
