DISCOVERIES IN ISOLATION

Hello! I've been busy writing for other platforms over the last few months, but all this self-isolation business has got me back on the good old FDB blog. I was contemplating what I should write about in my returning post... Another blog about how great DJ Harvey is? Something about live streams? The future of dance music? Nah... Then it hit me that during quarantine I've spent most of my days scrolling endlessly through YouTube, searching long and hard for hidden gems. So, why not share some of my musical discoveries in isolation? After all, music is for sharing...

1. Dr. Dunks - No P's (Keep It Cheap)

Kicking off with this belter from believe it or not Dolly Parton! One of the best editors on the planet Dr. Dunks has done what he does best and turned this into a proper stomper with the ability to tear an actual house down, so be careful...

2. Waldemar Schwartz - La Taza De Oro (Golf Channel)

It's groovy, it's cosmic, it's got a killer bassline... This one has all the ingredients to send a dancefloor crazy under a shimmering mirror ball. Get it downloaded...

3. Jex Opolis - First Stomp (NYC Dub) (Good Timin')

Mellow, dreamy, enchanting house from the masterful Jex. I could listen to this all day...

4. Herbest Moon - Blow Your Body (Francois K Deep Space Dub) (Life Line)

If you like bongos and spacey, floaty vibes, this ones for you. Perfect for Balearic or back garden sunsets. Thankyou Francois

5. Velvet Season & The Hearts of Gold - Fishpowder Dance (Love Circle)

Shouts to The Iron Glove for this one, I found it deeply rooted in this sublime mix. Absolute class from the ever-impressive Velvet Season & The Hearts of Gold

6. Who's Who - Dancin' Machine (OUT)

You might have heard Harvey play Hynpodance but have you heard Dancin' Machine? Cosmic, sleazy business this, proper Adult material dance music...

7. Jacques Renault - Fromage a Trois (Original mix) (Public Release Recordings)

I was surprised when I came across this. The Jacques Renault bangers I have in my library usually consist of classy disco remixes, but this one is a roughed up 110bpm chugger. There's more where this came from as well. I couldn't find the original mix on YouTube so here's the Force Of Nature remix. Enjoy...

8. Justin Van Der Volgen - Sheebooyah (Golf Channel Recordings)

A fine EP from Lord Justin Van Der Volgen. The A side on this 'The Clapping Song' is equally as brilliant and slightly better known. This one has certainly slipped under my radar until now...

9. Massiande - Dancing Stuff (I Love The Way) (Midnight Riot Records)

Mesmerising newly released Midnight Riot house, remixed by Moodena. I like it, do you?

10. Chris Rea - Fool If You Think It's Over (Funkdamento Remix)

Well we can't finish the list without a tune from Chris. Funkdamento puts a nice touch on this classic (not sure who he is but it's a good remix). One for reflection during these isolating times.

That's it for now. Hope you liked at least one of these. As always, I am Harry Franklin and you can contact me via harryfranklin123@gmail.com or follow me on Twitter/Instagram. Stay safe!
